litterboxOne of the most common reasons cats are turned into shelters is because of inappropriate elimination (not using the litterbox). In most cases, this is due to a behavioral issue (something has upset the cat to the point that they do not use their litterbox). Behavioral issues, with time and patience, can be corrected.

However, there are medical conditions which can also cause a cat to stop using the litterbox and these can be very serious. A trip to the vet is always the first thing you should do if your cat suddenly stops using the litterbox.

If you are having these issues with your cat, we encourage you to visit the following links for some very helpful suggestions and solutions. Especially visit Dr. Bruce Elsey's website, www.preciouscat.com
